Elvis's "Red Era" at Graceland refers to a dramatic mid-1970s redecoration (around 1974) led by his girlfriend Linda Thompson,
transforming parts of the mansion, especially the living room, with bold, plush red velvet, shag carpet, satin, gold tassels, and iconic shimmering "goddess rain lamps," creating a luxurious,
albeit polarizing, look that contrasted with earlier decor
and remained until Graceland opened to the public in 1982,
when it was reverted to blue and white.
