PROUD MARY - by the American rock band CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL and written by vocalist / lead guitarist JOHN FOGERTY ????????
It was released as a single in January 1969 by Fantasy Records and on the bands second studio album " Bayou Country".
Another popular version of the song was recorded by the du
o IKE & TINA TURNER in 1971.
After the disbandment of the duo Tina Turner continued to perform the song during her solo career and recorded new versions of it for her studio albums.
The origin of the song came from a ship named " THE PROUD MARY " formerly known as " THE MARY ELIZABETH " which was based in Memphis, Tennessee.
" THE PROUD MARY" travelled along the Mississippi River from 1928 until 1978.
