Nataly’s Corner going into the #smoothandcontemporaryjazz zone with new music from contemporary jazz saxophonist Phil Denny. The Urban Troubadour EP is Phil’s latest project and it was released in November 2020. With 6 songs, this EP may be short in songs but it’s truly soulfully jazzy in sounds. If you’ve listed to Phil Denny’s earlier recordings, then you already know he’s known for adding lots of R&B soul flavor into his music and Urban Troubadour is no exception. The lead song is enough of a sax groove to prove my point. But there’s also his sax cover of a Tina Turner classic tune (What’s Love Got To Do with It), featuring saxophonist Marcus Anderson and singer-songwriter Matt Cusson, that will have you swaying.
