A tropical night. A drifting melody. A memory that never quite fades.
“Misses Layaway” is my most Elvis-inspired song — tender, bittersweet, and full of longing.
Like the Marilyn Monroe tribute from yesterday, this one mourns even as it celebrates. Some loves aren’t meant to last forever — but they still shape us forever. The more we try to cling to life, the more fragile it becomes. Hold love too tightly and it breaks. Hold too loosely and it disappears. Yet even a brief moment of holding something beautiful… that’s enough to leave a permanent mark.
This is a song about that kind of love.
MISSES LAYAWAY

On my word, my Misses Layaway
Got away one day from my life
And said, oh my lord
I had a getaway
But that got away about the same time
Wo—ah, Wo—ah
Well it’s taken a while to prepare my calling
Taking all I can learn as I’m falling
Then one night, she took my hand
And whispered at my side
“Oh, it’s been nice, but the timing wasn’t right”
But for that time she was mine
O-oh, O-oh, O-oh
Oh my god, my Misses Layaway
Ran away one day from my soul
And left me all alone
I was the stowaway that rolls away
Blowing in the storm
I said it, O—ah, Wo—ah
It’s taken awhile to prepare my calling
Taking all I can learn as I’m falling
Then one day, she took my hand
And whispered at my side
“It’s been nice, but the timing wasn’t right”
But for that time she was mine
O-oh, O-oh, O-oh
