John Winston Ono Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, activist, and co-founder of the Beatles. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney is considered the most successful in history. Lennon left the Beatles in 1969 and continued his music career as a solo artist and with Yoko Ono. He was a vocal opponent of the Vietnam War, which led to the Nixon administration attempting to deport him in 1972.
