In 1960, Barry White found himself on the brink of prison. At 16, he was arrested for stealing Cadillac tires worth $30,000. That night, an Elvis Presley song, “It’s Now or Never”, played on the prison radio. Barry later recalled: “I had heard it before. But that night it hit me hard. I looked around and told myself, ‘Barry, this isn’t your life. You have to change everything.’”
Four months later, he was released. He taught himself to play the piano, began producing music, and discovered his deep bass voice. Years passed — and that same teenager from a jail cell sold 100 million records and won 2 Grammy Awards. He never forgot that night. It was the moment he first understood who he wanted to become.
