In this video I’m reacting for the first time to Creedence Clearwater Revival – I Heard It Through The Grapevine.

I already knew the Marvin Gaye version, which has more of that smooth Motown feel, so I was really curious to hear what CCR did with it. And this version turned out to be something completely different.

It feels darker, rougher, and much more groove-driven. Instead of trying to sound polished, this version really leans into the mood, the repetition, and that hypnotic swampy feel. The longer it goes, the more it pulls you in.

What stood out to me most was how strong the groove is and how much character John Fogerty’s voice adds to the song. This doesn’t feel like a normal cover. It feels like Creedence took the song and made it fully their own.
