When a performer or a sportsman is at the pinnacle of their profession it can at times be a lonely place.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the two most famous people on the planet were Elvis and Ali, both recognisable by a single name, both blessed with astonishing good looks, charisma and a God-given talent.

It should come as no surprise, therefore, to discover that they had a mutual admiration and respect which developed into a strong friendship.

Within their individual fields, they were recognised as the apex: they were the greatest, they were the kings.
