On February 1, 1968, Elvis Aaron Presley became a father. This rare footage captures the moment Elvis and Priscilla Presley left Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, with their newborn daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

The couple had married on May 1, 1967, at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Nine months later, Lisa Marie was born—exactly nine months to the day after their wedding, which sparked plenty of tabloid speculation at the time.

This footage shows a quieter, more tender side of Elvis rarely seen by the public. The King of Rock 'n' Roll, who had conquered stages around the world, was now stepping into his most important role: fatherhood.

Lisa Marie would be Elvis and Priscilla's only child together. She would go on to become a singer-songwriter in her own right and the sole heir to the Elvis Presley estate.
