Hi...we're Nick & Knarf....Today, we're Re-Reacting to 2 great songs from the iconic band from the late 60's and early 70's, Creedence Clearwater Revival!!!....first, it's their "swamp rock" classic, "Born On The Bayou"....then, it's their rocking, anti-war movement anthem, "Fortunate Son"!

Creedence Clearwater Revival formed in El Cerrito, California. The band initially consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty...his brother, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty... bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. These members had played together since 1959, first as the Blue Velvets, and later as the Golliwogs, before settling on the Creedence Clearwater Revival name in 1967.

CCR's musical style encompassed roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock, Southern rock, country rock, and blue-eyed soul. Belying their origins in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, the band often played in a Southern rock style, with lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River and other elements of Southern United States iconography.

"Born on the Bayou" is the first track on their second album, "Bayou Country", released in 1969. It was released as the B-side of the single "Proud Mary", which reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts. "Born on the Bayou" is an example of "swamp rock", a genre associated with artists like CCR, Little Feat / Lowell George, The Band, J.J. Cale & Tony Joe White. CCR performed the song at Woodstock.

"Fortunate Son" is from their fourth studio album, "Willy and the Poor Boys", released in November 1969. It was previously released as a single, together with "Down on the Corner", in September 1969. It soon became an anti-war movement anthem. The song reached No. 3 on the United States charts. It won the RIAA Gold Disc award in December 1970. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 99 on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. In 2013, the song was added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

CCR disbanded acrimoniously in late 1972 after four years of chart-topping success. Sadly, Tom Fogerty died in 1990. CCR's music is still a staple of U.S. classic rock radio airplay, to this day. 28 million CCR records have been sold in the U.S. alone. The compilation album "Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits", originally released in 1976, is still on the Billboard 200 album chart, and reached the 500-weeks mark in December 2020. It has been awarded 10x platinum. According to Acclaimed Music, they are the 61st most celebrated artist in popular music history, and the band has 3 albums on the Rolling Stone "Top 500 Albums of All Time" list.

So, strap on your seat belts....turn up the volume....and rip off the knob...and enjoy these 2 foot-stomping tunes from the legendary Rock & Roll greats, Creedence Clearwater Revival!
