In July 1957, a teenage Paul McCartney met John Lennon, joining his band, The Quarrymen, shortly after. By 1958, George Harrison came aboard, and by January 1959, Lennon's school friends had left, leaving the trio to experiment with new names. For a while, they performed as Johnny and the Moondogs, and even The Rainbows—Paul McCartney joked, “We all had different coloured shirts and we couldn’t afford any others!” Little did anyone know, these colorful beginnings were the first notes of a global phenomenon: The Beatles.
