The Australian film industry will be given a boost this week with the unveiling of Baz Luhrmann's biopic Elvis at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is centred on the life of singer Elvis Presley, played by Austin Butler, and his tumultuous relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.

The lead in the highly anticipated film received a 12 minute standing ovation at the prestigious festival and the film is garnering positive reviews.
