When I was working on "Bad Moon Rising" by "Creedence Clearwater Revival" for a guitar student, I noticed that there was a certain dissonance between the apocalyptical lyrics and the cheerful musical interpretation of the original. For my instrumental version, I tried to adopt the end-times mood of the lyrics.
