Austin Butler Beats Harry Styles to Play Elvis Presley in New Biopic

American actor and singer Austin Butler has been cast to play Elvis Presley in an upcoming new biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann.

The 27-year-old Disney Channel star reportedly beat Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort, and Miles Teller in competition for the role.

In a statement, the Oscar-nominated director said that through "a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world's most iconic musical figures."

Tom Hanks also stars in the movie as Presley’s controversial manager Colonel Tom Parker.
